My name is Ken Bamford and I have recently joined the TCM Group as a franchisee following a 22 year career with the Ministry of Defence. I’m a naturally inclusive leader and innovator with an entrepreneurial edge. I thrive on challenge and consider integrity to be my most defining quality.

I qualified as a Mediator in 2006 and went on to complete the Commercial Mediation Conversion and Professional Practice in Mediation. I passionately believe that the underpinning principles of Mediation are integral to good leadership and management. Therefore, I have also invested heavily in developing my academic knowledge around the psychology and practical application of these areas, culminating in my recent attainment of the MBA. My specific areas of expertise include risk and interpersonal conflict.

I posses a rare combination of extensive theoretic knowledge, that has been directly tested in countless real time practical situations worldwide over more than 2 decades of employment with the UK Ministry of Defence. Many of these situations have been in high stakes hostile environments, where you have to get it right first time, every time. I do not just talk the talk, I have lived it.

My background and experience has honed my skill set to a point where I can instinctively identify organisational weakness and quickly mitigate vulnerability across multiple stand alone or interconnecting business areas. This is particularly important when considering interpersonal workplace conflict, as the devastating effects of getting it wrong often only become fully apparent when it is too late. I can advise when and why your organisation will experience pain through conflict and how to avoid it.

I have a proven record of reducing the likelihood of workplace conflict occurring in the first place by embedding bespoke staff development programmes into the heart of working environments at all levels. This saves time and money in the long run by avoiding formal complaints and reduces general stress and anxiety amongst employees. In a world of ever decreasing resources and competing financial priorities, organisations are suffering because of the way they currently deal with conflict. Our advice

Workplace conflict is contextual and involves many variables, some of which are not always obvious. There is no one size fits all approach or solution, so you have to ask yourself why the person in front of you thinks they are qualified to give you advice on this subject. At TCM we don’t just offer one off products and services, we develop lasting relationships with our clients. This ensures the best possible holistic environment for productivity and harmony is created; and more importantly maintained, allowing your leaders to focus on what they do best, the core business. As a seasoned investigator and mediator I am naturally inquisitive and am not satisfied until I get to the root cause of problems. Sometimes the true root cause is not pretty or what people want to hear, but until you expose the root, it is impossible to move forward in a meaningful way. Ignorance or avoidance of the true root cause will only make matters worse over time.

The CEO of TCM, David Liddle, is an inspirational thought leader in this field and I am really excited to be joining TCM at a time when his strategic vision is aligning with my own around how we all deal with conflict. When the opportunity presented itself to play an integral part in shaping the future of TCM, it really was a no brainer. I was born and raised in Nottinghamshire and have watched TCM grow from strength to strength over the past decade.
