Employee Relations (ER) is a rapidly growing discipline within the Human Resources function. Historically, the role of ER was to preserve the relationship between unions and the management and to ensure the organisation was legally compliant. Modern Employee Relations delivers a far broader and potentially more important role. Employee Relations departments are responsible for the design and implementation of the People and Culture strategy of the organisation. It is this strategy that enables the organisation to bring its values to life and to integrate values-based HR processes and person-centred management practices. ER is a key partner in a modern, pluralist, productive, engaged and profitable organisation.
