“Companies need to be having critical conversations about the way things are and the way things could be. Don’t be afraid to dream big and act even bigger.”

Strategic Lead Consultant Blair Maxwell states that the importance of culture cannot be overstated. Companies are a reflection of behaviour at mass scale: it’s been proven that companies with a strong ethos are four times more likely to thrive. From this understanding, it’s clear that creating conditions for success are fundamental to building committed culture. Under his Health and Social Care cohort of Transformational Culture, he’ll be working in collaboration with various organisations to enable them to face challenges both prior to and during Covid, learn together, and share evidence and best practice to deliver positive, compassionate and inclusive work environments.

The first step: the 5D Review

To achieve this, organisations will undertake a 5D Review. This initial stage of transforming culture allows leaders to begin to take robust, evidence-based steps towards embedding relevant values and behaviours into their company cultures. A combination of data and stories will construct a unique case for change.

It will be a dialogic and diagnostic approach to:

  • Start honest conversations.
  • Catalyse thoughtful, informed action.
  • Outline an evidence-based scope and plan of next steps.

Ultimately, it’s about having critical conversations about the way that things are and the way that things could be – with a little insight, planning and dreaming. Embarking on a culture change journey isn’t too dissimilar from preparing to take a flight across the world. You’ll need a skilled and capable crew, a leader well-versed in the objectives and scope of the plan, and a group of attendees on board and dedicated to the final destination. There also needs to be clear attitudes, resources and conditions in place to navigate the path to catalyse change.

As organisations move to the final stages of the review, design and deploy, the scope for integrating a transformational culture will be agreed upon. A project timeline with key milestones and deliverables will be provided, with recommendations to develop capabilities and the co-creation of a system of success measurement.

A fair, just, inclusive, sustainable and high performing culture is within grasp – we just need the right tools and aspirations to make it happen.

With these firm markers throughout each step of the review, organisations will leave the project with a nuanced strategy to build a strong company culture for the future.
