Contributing to our community
How we're going beyond business to create social value

As a business leader, I am deeply passionate about social value because it embodies the very essence of our purpose: to put people first. It’s not just about making profits; it’s about making a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of others. Seeing the positive impact we can create, the lives we can touch, and the communities we can uplift fuels our drive for social value. It’s the force that inspires us to push boundaries, innovate, and leave a legacy of positive change.

The purpose of TCAime

As part of a new company-wide mission, TCM is providing grants of up to £1000 to organisations who are committed to peace building, violence reduction and restorative justice. We are particularly keen to support initiatives that are working with young people (although this isn’t a prerequisite). We are also looking to provide additional non financial support such as business planning, marketing and training. We will be urging our customers and partners to work with us to provide additional funding and support.

Making a difference with Music Masters

As part of our 2023 Christmas campaign, TCAime gave back to three charities. One of these was Music Masters, a not-for-profit organisation that gives the gift of music to children in schools. For Music Masters and CEO Roz De Vile, education is fast becoming a privilege, not a right. They believe in the transformative power of music and work to ensure that every child has the opportunity to develop their creative potential, with access to music lessons that are supported by pro-active teachers and diverse role models.

Music Masters is a charity focussed on improving lives with and through music, and engaging and supporting new audiences is a core part of the strategy we launched last year. We’re excited to now be working with a wide range of individuals of all ages and stages of their lives and careers, right across the UK. As a people-focussed charity, it is essential that we recognise the skills and support that our own team needs in order to feel empowered to deliver this work, which includes feeling equipped to communicate effectively and resolve resolution confidently but with compassion. With TCM’s support we were able to develop an approach to resolution that feels relevant and reflective of our organisational values.

Helping young people flourish

In the second week of our annual Christmas campaign, we continued to give back through our social value project. We made a £500 donation to Mindfulness in Schools Project, a charity that helps young people not only to manage difficulties but to flourish. This aligns closely with our ethos to put people first, build happy, healthy and harmonious cultures, and promote conflict resolution.

Supporting survivors of conflict

In the third and final week of our annual Christmas campaign, we made a £500 donation to The Forgiveness Project. This charity collects and shares stories from both victims/survivors and perpetrators of crime and conflict who have rebuilt their lives following hurt and trauma.

Supporting people to overcome conflict and transform it into a compassionate and constructive experience is central to our twenty years of work at TCM.

Visiting The Ben Kinsella Trust in North London

Ben's story

Ben was just 16 years old when he was stabbed to death in a horrific act of senseless violence on 29th June 2008.

Ben had been out at a local pub to celebrate the end of his GCSEs with his friends. On their way home, he and his friends realised they were being followed by three older teenagers. Scared and worried, they decided to run home.

But the older teenagers chased after them. They were seeking revenge for an altercation in the club that had taken place earlier that evening. Ben and his friends had absolutely nothing to do with the altercations, but when the older boys caught up with Ben, in an entirely unprovoked attack, they stabbed him to death.

Ben was the 17th teenager to be killed in London that year.

Our visit

In April 2023, the TCM team had the distinct pleasure of visiting The Ben Kinsella Trust Exhibition in North London, an anti knife crime charity.

TCM was delighted to donate £1000 to the trust as part of our social value initiative through TCAime. Our donation will help schools that are struggling to find funding to attend the exhibition.

Patrick Green, CEO at the Ben Kinsella Trust, gave us the tour and he provided a deeply emotional and powerful connection to Ben and his wonderful but clearly grief stricken family. We learned about the many dangers of knife crime and we saw how easy it is for kids to slip into these dangerous behaviours – feeling they need to carry a knife to protect themselves. It is a clear cycle of violence which Ben’s family and the Ben Kinsella Trust team are desperately trying to break.
