Practical Investigation Skills is a two-day course in which you’ll learn how to:

  • Learn how to investigate disciplinary issues, allegations of harassment and discrimination
  • Set the scope of,  and run the investigation
  • Prepare the final report
  • Give evidence at panels and appeals

By the end of the course:

You’ll understand:

  • The employer’s responsibilities and the employees’ rights
  • The legal framework of investigations
  • How to set up and manage a thorough, fair and compassionate investigation
  • What information to gather prior to an investigation and how to create an investigation plan
  • The importance of an objective and impartial investigation
  • The context of the investigation and how it links to other processes such as mediation or coaching

You’ll have the key skills to:

  • Undertake an investigation: active listening, questioning interviewing, funnelling, summarising and note-taking
  • Manage an effective investigation interview
  • Gather and assess relevant information and how to determine relevance
  • Prepare a well-structured investigation report that will withstand internal and external scrutiny
